Everyone seems to forget the basic idea of why the kneeling happened in the first place. Protesting police brutality by Colin Kapernick. He got penalized for standing up and being made an example. As a result, no NFL team wants to take a chance on him.
Then President Trump decided to critize the NFL, but actually he started with the NBA first by disinviting Stefan Curry who didn't really decide to go to the White House and then finally said he wouldn't go at a press conference. The NFL came in with the whole #KneeDown Gate thing and everything spiraled out of control into a shiny distraction.
The long and short of it is that the current National Anthem protests have nothing to do with patriotism. It has everything to do with disagreeing with Donald Trump and his attack on sports. It has nothing to do with racism, dividing a nation because of black players, dishonoring veterans, etc. It's all about disagreeing with Donald Trump without the use of Twitter. It's all about putting Donald Trump in the news
Thus, everyone, media included became the sucker to the used car salesman's pitch.
We fell for the pettiness, let it consume us and make it bigger than what it really is. Just like Youtube or Facebook drama.
With a petty issue like this in the news, everyone is trying to add their voice because they know that their voice will be heard and want that 15 minutes of fame (or in this case 140 characters of Tweet fame or viral Youtube video fame.
Donald Trump has blurred the lines between celebrity and politics, more than Ronald Regan was able to accomplish. Thus, every sports start, singer, movie star, etc. Feels that is now their right to put their vocal hat into the ring.
So ladies and gentleman, I urge you to look at what this whole psychobabble about the National Anthem and the NFL really is: Putting Donald Trump in the news.
And we all did it together in a unified way, not a divided one.
